Air Quality Research Supersite

The HKUST air quality research supersite is composed of a weather-proof air-conditioned modular house of 80 m2, which contains >10 sample inlets and an optical window for instrumentation, a 10-m high automatic weather station, and an outdoor plinth area for 8 samplers. The supersite is equipped with a suite of real-time gas and aerosol analyzers, including trace gas analyzers (O3, NOx, CO, and SO2), PM2.5 Sharp Monitor, Monitor for AeRosols and Gases in Ambient Air (MARGA), Scanning Mobility Particle Sizer Spectrometer (SMPS), total carbon and black carbon (TCA and BC), online XRF, aerosol mass spectrometer (AMS), HONO analyzer, proton transfer reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometer (PTR-Tof-MS), etc.

Environmental Central Facility

The Environmental Central Facility (ENVF) at HKUST is equipped with many types of advanced analytical equipment and facilities, including carbon analyzer, SEM, ICP-OES, HPLC, RAMAN, GC/FID/MSD, and UHPLC-QTrap/MS systems, etc. More detailed information can be found here.

Ship-borne Air Quality measurement platform

In collaboration with the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) of the HKSAR, a mobile ship-borne air quality platform was established. The mobile platform host a series of instruments for measuring O3 and its precursors, namely NOx, VOCs, OVOCs, particulates, etc. More than 20 sampling cruises have been performed in different regions of Hong Kong waters.
